Mayers II, Esq. Joins Akron NAACP for Virtual Session on Policing Surveillance Technology

Carlton T. Mayers II, Esq., founder of Mayers Strategic Solutions, joined the Akron NAACP on Saturday, April 4, 2026, for a virtual session titled “The Digital Badge” focused on policing surveillance technology. According to Mayers Solutions, the event examined how law enforcement’s growing use of AI, drones, facial recognition, and other automated tools is changing public safety and raising urgent questions about oversight and accountability.

The session was held online and centered on the expanding role of surveillance technologies in policing, along with the legal and policy frameworks needed to protect civil liberties. Event materials described the discussion as an opportunity to move beyond headlines and address how communities can respond with stronger governance and transparency.

Topics included the real-world use of AI and surveillance in policing, strategies for community-led oversight, and policy development aimed at preventing harmful or unchecked surveillance practices. Those themes align closely with the C.A.T. Method®, which emphasizes Community Empowerment, Accountability, and Transparency as core principles for public safety governance.

The Akron discussion comes as more communities across the country are weighing how to regulate technologies such as automated license plate readers, drone programs, real-time crime centers, and integrated surveillance platforms before their use expands further.
