"Common Ground" summarizes the 16 public safety listening sessions from the summer of 2022 to the winter of 2024 held in collaboration with the Milwaukee, WI Mayor’s Office, Milwaukee Police Department, Office of Violence Prevention, the civilian oversight authority called the Fire and Police Commission, and community-based organizations like Pathfinders and NAACP. 3. Establish Democratic Processes for the Use of Surveillance Technology, Facial Recognition Technology, and Artificial Intelligence in Public Safety
Grand Rapids NAACP joined forces with Mayers II Esq. to encourage the City of Grand Rapids, MI to change its surveillance technology policy. Mayers said during the press conference, "This is a wonderful example, not only of the process, for
including community members in what law enforcement [and] elected and appointed government officials are doing around public safety (because as we all know) community members are also stakeholders in public safety so it's good to have everybody coming together to do that."
